/ah, or right-click the auctioneer at spawn. Unlike a
chest shop, nobody has to travel to you and you do not have to be online
— you list an item, it sits there, and the money reaches you when it sells.
Two ways to sell
/ah sell <price>— buy it now. Whoever pays first gets it. The listing lasts 48 hours./ah bid <price>— a real auction, starting at that price and running 2 hours. Each bid must beat the last by 25%, and a bid in the last minute pushes the clock back to a minute.
Hold the item you want to list and run the command. You get ten listings.
The house takes 10%
Twice what a chest shop charges, deliberately. The auction house saves
you building anything, staffing anything, or being online — that convenience is worth
paying for, and pricing it this way keeps chest shops and the Bazaar
worth using instead of everyone defaulting to /ah. It is charged on the sale,
and the money leaves the economy rather than going to anyone.
So for steady bulk trade a chest shop is still the cheaper way to sell. The auction house earns its cut on the things a shop is bad at: one-off items, rare drops, and anything you want the whole server bidding on.
Which market to use
- Auction house — anything portable, especially rare or one-off items where you want the whole server bidding.
- Chest shops — steady bulk trade at a fixed price, and the reason to build a shop players visit.
- The Bazaar — the server itself, always buying, no waiting for a player. Prices move with supply.
Worth knowing
/ah announceturns off the chat announcement every listing makes, if you find it noisy.- Money from a sale reaches you automatically, online or not — there is nothing to claim.
- An item that does not sell comes back to you. Open
/ahand collect it from the expired-items button. Nothing is destroyed for going unsold.
